A Mother's Story

A Mother's story is about Medy (Pokwang), a make-up artist, who became an illegal immigrant in the United States to save the life of her infant daughter. The film deals with what OFW's go through in the United States. 


Plot:

Medy (Pokwang), a make-up artist, was given the chance of a lifetime to accompany a concert star to the United States for a performance. She promised her family that she will return after a week. However, while in America, she stumbled upon a former classmate Helen (Beth Tamayo) who convinced her to stay for good in the land of milk and honey. She initially refused, but eventually gave in, when she got a call one night from her husband that they need a big amount of money to bring her youngest daughter to the hospital. America has not been the friendliest to her and our story begins with her coming home to Manila literally with nothing.

Medy’s two kids, King (Rayver Cruz) and Queenie (Xyriel Manabat) are now 19 and 7. King struggles with the return of his mother. Animosity, resentment, shame, and anger are issues he has built with Medy. For the young Queenie, it’s getting to know the mother, who she thought would one day come out of a Balikbayan Box. And as for her husband, Medy discovers something she least expected.

When I watched the trailer I was convinced to watch it because I find the story moving. A lot of our OFW's goes trough a lot of hell just to provide financial freedom to their families in the Philippines. The movie makes the life out of the OFW's so real and maybe by watching the movie our kababayan's would have an ample idea that living in the States is not a picnic out in the park but nutty.  

Sad news :(

Yesterday, I heard a news that is so tragic.

Every time we listen to the news every other day or just simply reading the newspaper, the content of that is just nothing to us. We would know or have a fair idea on what is the news all about, what happened and the names of the people involved. But if YOU know of someone that is on the news, then it would be different because you know that person and you just can't get enough of the news. You simply have to know all the facts, what happened and how did it happened.

This is the news that simply left me baffled and until now I am waiting of what will happen.

I know one of them and one thing that entered my mind was -- what was he thinking of ?!? Was he thinking at all? I don't blame some of our kababayan's to be mad at them. It was just sheer stupidity -- but forget about the shame they gave to us and to their family. I just felt pity--their life would be wasted if they really are guilty. My heart simply went out to his mom and family. It was just so sad. Don't you feel it? I felt it.

Please, my fellow blogger/s, I know that what they did  is wrong and yes, brought shame to us all, but we are all humans, we make mistakes. Can we just be more compassionate to our fellow Pinoy? Let's not judge them too harshly. 

Movie review of ENTENG ng Ina mo

With all the entries for the Metro Manila Film Festival, my sister wanted to watch Enteng ng Ina mo (I was rooting to watch Segunda Mano. I want to watch horror flicks. But yes, she has a point that most horror films here are not that scary, so I we just watched ENTENG NG INA MO).

It was a 2 hour bus ride from our house just to watched that movie! We we're spending the holidays in our province. So, from our house we would ride a tricycle then ride a bus bound to Naga City. I never watched Enteng Kabisote Series (EK has four movies) but watched all Tanging Ina Series (has three movies). The trailer did not really made me or urged me to watch it the first day it was shown in the movie house. I am not expecting much from the movie but I've read and heard great reviews of the movie so, I just went along with my sis.

At the end... the movie was not that great. I find it tasteless. Yes, there are some parts that I laughed but the movie did not left a great impression on me. The movie is nice since it was starred by two big icon's in the movie industry but at the end I just find it too plain. It's just another movie that made me say, Okay I watched it, BUT watching it once is enough. When would there be another movie, a tagalog/Filipino movie that would pull my heart strings and would make me watched the movie again and again? 

So, that's it, peepz! I don't know if you watched it already, and if we have different opinions -- let's just respect it. I'm just sharing what I thought of the movie ;)

Hi, Everyone!!!! sorrrryy! I was not able to write for a few months because I was banned from using my sister's laptop. So, I have to wait for December to have my very own laptop. ^___^

So, I would like to thank my brother in law, Mr. Rod Bulaong, for being kind and thoughtful, for giving me such a wonderful gift! I'm in bliss for having this one! So, thank you! Thank you!!! You have no idea that being a blogger, it's really a must to have their own PC or lappy or a netbook. It just give us much more ease in typing our piece ;)

The Kitchen Musical

I missed to watch The Kitchen Musical last Saturday and was disappointed that I forgot about it. The series piqued my interest because we have some Filipino talents on that show and I'm curious about the plot story, would it be like GLEE (which I don't really follow that much because I don't like the lead character. I find her singing and acting OA) or would it be way different, how they would execute their singing and dancing while they cook etc.

And I love food and a romantic at heart so maybe I'd learn to like the series since the episodes is quite telling what the story is all about -- heck the title is almost spelled it out to you , that the drama would revolved around the kitchen so we might expect some music, dance, and drama in this story.

I almost, almost blame it to high school musical because after their successful movies all kinds of musical TV series are sprouting. So, yeah, we should stop comparing this series to GLEE since this is way different from GLEE. :) GLEE did not start it all this rage of having a TV series that have some musical numbers on them. Blame it to high school musical. But I really, really fell in love with all the songs in HS musical so for those TV series who would have that kind of thingy I would still give them a chance to show what they got. Anyways, I'm not a GLEE fanatic. :)

Back to KM..

The plot of the story is about a rich young girl who goes to work at her father's famous restaurant The Avilon after graduating from the culinary school Le Cordon Bleu in Paris.

The Characters:

Karylle as Maddie Avilon, a fresh graduate of Le Cordon Bleu. She lands a job as the sous chef in her father's restaurant. She struggles to show her individuality and creativity in the hands of the head chef.

Stephen Rahman Hughes as Alex Marcus, the executive chef of The Avilon, known for his notoriety for perfection.

Christian Bautista as Daniel Ray, a supportive childhood friend of Maddie and the other sous chef of the restaurant.

Arthur Acuña as Harry Shaw, the general manager of The Avilon. He keeps secrets from Maddie on her father's motives for letting her work in the restaurant.

Rosemary Vandenbroucke as Selena Argon, the sommelier of The Avilon who will do everything to get what she wants. She has a deep desire to get rid of Maddie and win Alex's heart.

I was able to watch the first episode at YouTube. The plot was not that exciting but then again it's just the first episode and we should support this since it's an Asian show and we have Karylle And Christian in this show. :)

 I heard that the 13 one-hour long episodes are done already and the second season of the series is already in the process.

I can't wait to grab the full episodes of this series. :)

"NO Other Woman" Review

I was supposed to write about this a week ago but have no idea why I put it off for days. I was busy with inane things. I was one of the viewers who went to the cinema when it was on its first week. I watched it with my younger sister, cousin and the yaya of my nephew and we watched it at the last full show of the day. It was Friday and it was free seating at that time. When we were in line we we're told that it was a standing room already 'coz the house is full but we went in nevertheless. We are there already so we just opted to sit at the stairs. It was a first for me :)

Why did we watched it? Well, I love Anne Curtis! I think she is such a nice person and so would want to support her and the plot made me curious. Anne Curtis, played the role of the other woman on this film.

The film is a tale of a man's journey towards building a career and a family that he can competently provide for, but along the way, his ambition and reputation are tarnished by a single adulterous act. So, it mainly focus Derek's role in this film as the man who sinned and why he did it.

As of this posting, No Other Woman, breaks record and breached the P210 million mark in two weeks and still raking in at the box-office to be the number one. And I think it was worth it watching it. ^___^

I think everyone can relate to the story. In every marriage, one would really be tempted to taste a bit of a sin. Why? We are human after all. We are weak and we are all a sinners. The Husband, the wife and the other woman role fits perfectly and I think all of them made the film a success with the way they act their role!

I don't want to be a spoiler so I would not say anything on what happened or the plot of the story. I highly recommend that you should watch it. Kudos to the director! The movie was quite good. :)

Nars Life

When you see a nurse what do you think of them? An angel that God made to make your relatives life comfortable and someone that would take care of them? Or just another human that are paid to take care of you or your relative? A slave? Or just someone doing their task/job?

They would appear to you in a white uniform or scrub..our uniform pertains that we are there to do our job with honor. But you see, all of that is a sham. Life in a hospital is crap. Yes, it's a thankless job and we may be fulfilled that at the end of the day we help someones lives or save a life. But imagine, we are there amidst with all the sufferings and it takes a toll in our hearts  and souls. It sucks the happiness out of our system.

Yes, we are there to do our Job and as we pledge in our profession that we would save lives but we ALL are not that prepared that life in a hospital is pure chaos. :)

Before you yell at your nurse because they did not bring your medicine on time or you need to go to the bathroom or need your medications you should think first that you are not the only patient in this world. He/she may have a lot of patients on her shift. He/she is doing all he/she can do and do his/her task and some of them are not paid at all or his/her salary is not that enough. So, before you talk think first.

In months time there would be another new batches of nurses and yes they would be unemployed..ahhh another batches of beguiled human beings. We should have read a nurses guide after PASSING the BOARD.

Choices to be filled: Call center agent, caregiver, nursing assistant, bank teller, trainee, volunteer!!!

Reality bites big time and yes, I'm one of them. Another gullible soul. I tried to be a volunteer but it really was not made for me. I'm not tailored for it. Imagine having 30 patients per day and deaths. Found out I can't handle deaths. Had a patients that I just looked at him, a three month old infant and he died. :( and to top it off was working with no pay! I realized I can never ever be a martyr!

And I talked back. My Mom was mad at me after telling her that I told someone that if she can't wait then go to a private hospital if she preferred a VIP treatment. Well, I was at the OPD at that time and there was this elegantly dressed lady and asked if they would be first in line because her helper's child vomited a live worm day before and was injected with a medicine yesterday at the ER and was told to go to the OPD and have a doctor see the child. The child was not with them but would just want the doctor to give them a medicine. I told them that the child needs to be seen so that the doctor can further asses what proper medicine would be best for the child. She the told me off to STOP speaking in tagalog because I'm in the province and just say it in the local dialect. Well, it made me MAD, I instead speak in English because she was talking to me in English when telling me to talk to her in our dialect. It was a proper thing to do after all, right? (I was brought up that if someone speaks in English the respond in English) Told her that I was used talking in Tagalog and said that she would have to wait for her number to be called. Her Doctor friend is not there and I don't know what medicine would be given since the child needs to be seen and if she needs to be treated like a VIP then she needs to go to a private hospital since we are in a government hospital so ALL would be treated equally.

Well, it was hilarious now remembering that but it just made the bitch in me to go out. If she were nicer I could have put her first in line because patients have no idea what is their number ;)
